Reports to: Dietary Director
Under the direction of the Dietary Director, the dishwasher is responsible the overall cleanliness of the kitchen including the cleaning and storage of kitchen and dining room equipment and utensils, emptying garbage cans, removal of recycling and ensuring kitchen equipment and surfaces are kept clean and operational.
Responsibilities:
- Helps cooks collect and clean pots, pans and equipment for washing.
- Load, operate and empty dishwasher.
- Puts dishes away.
- Damp mops floors.
- Cleans kitchen equipment such as blenders, refrigerators, dishwashers.
- Maintains general cleanliness of the dry goods storage area, walk-in fridge and freezer, receiving area by sweeping and mopping of floors, washing of walls and racks.
- Performs all duties in a clean and sanitary manner;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of grade 9 education or equivalent.
- 1 year experience preferred but will train
- Safe Food Handlers certificate preferred.
- Ability to work accurately and quickly with minimal supervision.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to follow proper food handling and storage procedures.
- Ability to adhere to established residence policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.
Physical Demands:
- Able to lift and carry a minimum weight of approximately 30lbs.
- Able to stand for long periods of time in a warm environment.
- Walking short distances.
Responsibilities to Health and Safety:
- Is aware of employees’ responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in the department manuals.
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers and residents.
- Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations. Does not operate or use faulty equipment.
- Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by task, SDS or facility policy.
- Immediately reports personal injury and seeks first aid as needed.
- Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and knows the facility and disaster plan.
