RESIDENTIAL COUNSELLOR AIDE

The Residential Counsellor Aide (RCA) is responsible to help develop and implement Person Centred Programs for individuals living within our residential group homes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Establish good rapport and communicate effectively with all individuals, staff, families and outside agencies

·         Advocate for each person supported

·         Perform regularly scheduled cleaning duties

·         Plan and carry out activities of interest for each individual, according to their goals

·         Provide support as needed in feeding, dressing, personal hygiene, lifting and transferring, and bathing routines

·         Manage emergency situations as they arise

·         Document daily, count and record PRN’s and Petty Cash

·         Provide transportation to and from medical appointments, recreational activities, and visits with family and friends

·         Stay up to date with and provide support through Behaviour Support Plans

·         Ensure training is up to date

REQUIREMENTS

·         Two-year College Diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Social Services Worker or another related post-secondary training program, and/or previous related experience

·         Satisfactory Criminal Records Check for the Vulnerable Sector

·         Valid G Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

·         Certification in First Aid/CPR Level C and Crisis Prevention Intervention (within six months of hire)

·         Effective communication skills (oral, written, and listening)

·         Strong team player

·         Thorough knowledge of developmental services/mental health

·         Understanding of the application of Behaviour Management

·         Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical standards

·         Computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook Suite (Work, Outlook)

·         Ability to be flexible and work independently

·         Ability to perform two-person lifts with another employee
